A tour of Calpera’s courtyards: hay-making terraces
Sunday 21 August 2022
The walk starts at Alpe Segletta and follows a circular route around the Calpera pass.
This route takes you on a tour of some of the mountain farmsteads in the Intrasca Valley: at each farmstead, you can see small sections of terraced land built using traditional dry-stone walls, but the most distinctive feature of this route is the Calpera promontory, once used for hay meadows created on ‘ciglionamenti’ – vast earthworks with which the mountain farmers had shaped the slopes of the hill, now visible only in a few places that have remained clear of woodland.
- Meet at 9.30 am at the car park in Segletta (Zipline); participants are to bring their own packed lunch; return scheduled for around 4.30 pm.
