Closing meeting of the international IGCP 714 3GEO project
On5 December 2025,at 10.00 (CET), the closing meeting of the international IGCP 714 project will be held online. an initiative of global significance in the field of geosciences, which over the five-year period2021–2025has involved numerous UNESCO-recognised geoparks, including the Sesia Val Grande Geopark.
The IGCP 714 project, entitled “3GEO: Geoclimbing & Geotrekking in Geoparks”, aims to enhance the potential of existing and candidate UNESCO geoparks by providing innovative tools for geoscientific communication through geoclimbing and geotrekking (3GEO).
The initiative has highlighted natural climbing routes and trekking trails that pass through rocky outcrops – essential tools for telling the story of the Earth in landscapes frequented by people of different ages and backgrounds. Through multidisciplinary approaches, the project has promoted the creation of 3D models of specific geo-heritage sites in various countries and the development of educational multimedia resources aimed at both schools and the general public.
The programme for the closing event includes:
- apresentation of the resultsand the main activities carried out during the period 2021–2025;
- two thematic seminarson digital outcrop modelling;
- avirtual round-tablediscussion aimed at exploring future prospects and potential collaborations.
All participants are invited to contribute their comments and suggestions, with a view to setting out the future direction of development and international cooperation.
