On Saturday 2 September, the Granum Museum, in collaboration with Baveno Town Council, as part of the ‘La Pietra racconta 2023’ festival – which is supported by the VCO Community Foundation – will present a unique dawn harp concert featuring Martina Nifantani as part of the ‘Stone on stage’ concert series.

The event takes place at 6.30 am on Feriolo beach to watch the sun rise over the Borromeo Gulf. Participants are invited to bring their own blanket to spread out on the sand.

The programme offers an overview of the harp repertoire spanning several centuries and styles, drawing inspiration from dawn and seeking to evoke the sense of awakening through a gradual crescendo in intensity. The performance is divided into two parts: three original pieces for the harp and a selection of pieces adapted from the piano repertoire, designed to showcase the instrument’s full potential in all its nuances.

The artist.

Martina Nifantaniwas born in Verbania on 7 April 2001. She began her musical studies at the age of six, learning the piano at the A. Toscanini Music School in Verbania, where she distinguished herself by winning first prize overall in the 14th and 15th editions of the ‘Valstrona Musical Interpretation’ national competition. She began studying the harp at the age of eleven, under the guidance of Sara Chessa at the Casanova Music School in Laveno.

After obtaining her first and second pre-academic level harp certificates at the G. Verdi Conservatoire in Milan, she was admitted to the Claudio Abbado Municipal School of Music in Milan, where she is currently studying in the class of Irina Zingg, a teacher from Moscow.

She has performed as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles at the Notti Trasfigurate, Museo a cielo aperto, Premeno Classica and Ghiffa in Musica festivals; for the Fondazione Milano at the Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan, the Pontifical Western University, the Monumental Cemetery in Milan and the Pinacoteca di Brera.

Since 2018, she has attended the HarpMaster Academy in Switzerland every year, studying with Milda Agazarian, Sylvian Blassel, Isabelle Moretti, Ieuan Jones, Luisa Prandina and Mara Galassi; in July 2021, she performed as a soloist in the “Young Soloist” concert as part of the 16th edition of the Festspiele. In 2022, she took part as principal harpist in the “Bohème Experience 2022” project at the Teatro Lirico in Milan, to mark the 160th anniversary of the Claudio Abbado Municipal School of Music.

She distinguished herself as the winner at the “Antonio Salieri di Legnago” International Competition (First Prize Overall), and at the “Suoni d’Arpa” International Competition in Saluzzo, taking part in the Third National Symposium “The Harp in Italy” hosted by Salvi Harps on behalf of the Italian Harp Association.
