Discovering the Sesia Supervolcano

18 August – 18 September – 16 October 2022are the dates scheduled for the now-traditional geological excursions that take participants to explore the deepest parts of the Sesia supervolcano in the heart of the Western Alps. Organised by Ilaria Selvaggio in collaboration with the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark Association, of which she is an Official Guide, the excursions will take participants on a journey through time and space, travelling back 300 million years and, in a sense, plunging 30 km into the depths of our amazing planet. This will allow you to see the rocks formed by the immense explosion and those of the supervolcano’s magma chamber.

This day-long excursion is done by car and includes sections to be covered on foot; it starts in Romagnano Sesia and ends in Scopetta in the upper valley.
