Geopark Day 2026 – River Edition: 34 participants for a day of training, discovery and local networking

Geopark Day 2026 has come to a close to great satisfaction– River Edition, the initiative organised by the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark as part of European Geoparks Week, has concluded to great satisfaction. The event was dedicated to exploring the link between the River Sesia, the area’s geological heritage and the sporting and tourist activities associated with it.

The event was attended by34 local stakeholders, confirming the interest and shared commitment to building an increasingly informed and active network dedicated to promoting UNESCO heritage.

Throughout the day, participants were able to explore topics related to the geology and geomorphology of the River Sesia, discuss the opportunities offered by geotourism, and take part in training sessions and field activities, in line with the initiative’s objectives. Geopark Day thus proved to be an important opportunity for networking and professional development for those who work daily to promote and showcase the region.

Special thanks go to all the tourism and sports operators who took part in the event. Thanks to their enthusiasm, professionalism and presence in the area, they are increasingly becoming key players and ambassadors for the Sesia Val Grande Geopark, helping to raise awareness of its extraordinary geological, natural and cultural heritage.

The strength of a UNESCO Geopark lies, in fact, in its community: it is through collaboration between local authorities, associations, businesses and stakeholders that the local heritage can be promoted and passed on to future generations.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks tothe Municipality of Scopa, theSesia Gorges,BOSS KAYAK,the Monterosa Valsesia Consortiumand theDepartment of Geosciences at the University of Milanfor their invaluable collaboration and sponsorship of the event, which played a decisive role in making the day a success.

The success of this year’s event marks a further step forward in building an increasingly strong and informed local network, capable of promoting the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark through hospitality, knowledge and the sharing of the values that make this area unique.
