To markEuropean Geoparks Week, theSesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geoparkinvites sports and tourism operators, as well as local organisations, to take part in“Geopark Day 2026 – River Edition”, scheduled forWednesday 27 May 2026 in Scopa (VC).
The initiative represents an important opportunity forfree trainingaimed specifically at staff at river sports schools, with the aim of exploring the link between the geology and geomorphology of the River Sesia and the practice of sport. The event is also open to tourism professionals in Valsesia, to foster a greater understanding of the area and promote tourism that is increasingly informed, sustainable and integrated with local communities.
According to the founding principles of UNESCO Geoparks, a Geopark promotes its geological heritage through sustainable development strategies that integrate environmental, cultural and tourism aspects. With this in mind, Geopark Day is intended to be an opportunity for all those involved in promoting the area to meet, share ideas and develop.
The following will be on offer throughout the day:

- fieldwork;
- opportunities for professionals to exchange views;
- in-depth articles exploring the relationship between the river environment, sport and the promotion of tourism.
Interested participants will also be able to begin the process of obtaining‘Geopark Partner’ status by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark.
