Lanzarote is a wonderful place for walking, a veritable open-air geological museum, where people have found ways to adapt to a climate that is ideal for tourists but more challenging for everyday life.
The volcanoes, both young and old, are pages in a book recounting the history of the Earth. Man’s works – not only for cultivating vines, but in many other ways too – are the result of ingenuity and perseverance.
The power of the ocean and the work of the wind have sculpted the rest: golden or black beaches, cliffs, and sheer rock faces plunging into the sea. The highlights of the proposed itinerary are:

• Timanfaya National Park tells, almost two centuries later, the story of an eruption that changed the face of the island of Lanzarote. Recent lava flows overlap with millennia-old cones, creating fantastic vistas.
• The coastal paths and routes that wind their way around the volcanic craters
• The beautiful golden sandy beaches, perfect for relaxing in the sun
• The salt flats, with their elegant geometric patterns and the stark contrast of the white salt
• Lanzarote’s satellite island, La Graciosa, which can be reached by boat across the Charco, the channel between the two islands.
• The works of César Manrique, who in the 1960s recognised the importance of promoting the island as a tourist destination, whilst preserving its unique characteristics and highlighting some of nature’s extraordinary creations, such as the Cueva de los Verdes, the route through Timanfaya National Park and the Jameos del Agua – the lava tunnel converted into a concert hall – and the Jardín de Cactus.
