Planet Earth Week – 5 October 2025

The first event of Earth Week organised in our Geopark is dedicated to the Sesia Supervolcano!

A day dedicated to the Sesia Supervolcano, with an introduction by Dr Ilaria Selvaggio, a Geopark guide, followed by a screening of the new film “In the Bowels of the Supervolcano – A Journey to the Centre of the Earth”, in which Professor Silvano Sinigoi of the University of Trieste recounts and illustrates the subject of his research spanning over 30 years: the fossilised supervolcano in the Sesia River area. The general overview and the screening of the film will last approximately one hour in total and will take place at 3.00 pm, 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm. During the afternoon, visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Historical and Ethnographic Museum of Lower Valsesia, dedicated to the rural way of life in the lower valley. The museum hosting the event is located in Romagnano Sesia (NO) in the historic Villa Caccia, built in the 19th century by the Novara-born architect Alessandro Antonelli, who also designed the Mole in Turin.
