Piancone

In the Piancone area, one can observe rocks from the crust embedded within the Basic Complex; within these, one can find thin bands of corundum.

The watercourse flows through a zone rich in paragneiss layers, where norites, quartz-bearing norites and charnockites are abundant, intercalated with bands of Restic paragneiss and, to a lesser extent, amphibolic gabbro. At the end of the route lies the thickest paragneiss body, which is approximately 100 m wide. Before reaching this body, smaller paragneiss bodies are embedded within the norite and cut by small normal faults filled with fine-grained gabbro. Within the band, charnockite occurs both as bands and as discordant dykes within a garnet-rich metasediment, in which thin bands of corundum can be easily identified. Biotite is present, although rare. At the eastern contact of the section, garnet-bearing norites are present. Immediately above, bands of charnockite intermixed with norite are transposed within the foliation. The composition of these granitoids is very similar to that observed in the upper part of the Mafic Complex, suggesting that the final section incorporated into the Mafic Complex was as fertile as the kinzigite in the upper part.
