Screening of the film “In the Bowels of the Supervolcano – Journey to the Centre of the Earth”

The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness of and promote our Geopark and, in particular, the presence of a fossil supervolcano in the Valsesia and Valsesserina areas, which was ‘discovered’ by the geologists Silvano Sinigoi and James E. Quick.

Based on a story by Sinigoi, a film has been made that takes us along the River Sesia – or rather, right on top of the river – offering a different and unique view of the rocks that originally lay within the magma conduit:“In the Bowels of the Supervolcano – Journey to the Centre of the Earth”was produced by Artemide Film and directed by Alessandro Scillitani.

In the year marking the tenth anniversary of the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO Global Geopark, and to coincide with EGN Week 2025 – the week dedicated to European Geoparks – the film will be screened for the first time at three different venues: 

- 4 June at 6 pm in Balmuccia (Teatro Sociale),

- on 5 June at 6.00 pm in Varallo (Palazzo d’Adda conference hall), attendedby Prof. Sinigoi,

- 7 June at 11.00 am in RomagnanoSesia (Historical and Ethnographic Museum at Villa Caccia).

The screening in various locations has been organised to encourage participation and raise awareness of the Supervolcano and the Geopark, which are the subject of ongoing interest and conservation efforts by the Geopark’s staff and volunteers.
