Music and geology in Cavaglio – 4.00 pm, Church of San Donnino (Valle Cannobin)

In this unique concert organised by the Alto Verbano Museum Network in collaboration with the Associazione Culture d’Insieme VCO at theChurch of San Donnino in Cavaglio on Sunday 23 June at 4 pm, the STORIES OF THE EARTH, narrated by geologistPaolo Millemaci, andthe SOUND VIBRATIONS produced byRossano Munaretto’sstone fluteswill alternate, blending together to create a single, moving experience.

The concert aims to highlight the close link between the history of the Earth and that of humankind. These are different perspectives on the same story, the unity of which is brought to the fore by the shared language of emotional musical vibration.
 
Afterwards, refreshments will be provided by the Associazione Culture d’Insieme VCO.
The event forms part of the ‘Musei e Cultura tra Lago e Monti’ programme, which is supported by Unione Lago Maggiore and Fondazione Comunitaria VCO.

The geologist: Paolo Millemaci
Born in 1962 in Cannobio (VB), he obtained his school-leaving certificate at the Contardo Ferrini Institute in Verbania as a surveyor, followed by a degree in Geology from the University of Milan, where he presented a thesis entitled “Geology of the Brissago-Canton Ticino CH area”, supervised by Prof. Attilio Boriani, an expert on the geology of the Massiccio dei Laghi.
A self-employed professional since 1995, he has undertaken and continues to undertake geological projects for both private clients and public authorities.

Alongside his work, he has been collaborating with primary and lower secondary schools in Cannobio for over a decade, where he organises presentations and field trips focusing on the local area every year. He has also taken part in numerous FAI events, presenting the geology of the Cannobina Valley. Since 2017, he has been curator of the Ethnographic and Geological Museums in Gurro (VB).  Since 2018, in his capacity as curator of the museums, he has been collaborating with the secondary schools of the ‘Pietro Carmine’ State Comprehensive School in Cannobio and the ‘Ferrini Franzosini’ in Verbania, focusing on the development of projects culminating in publications aimed at promoting knowledge and the study of each individual area within the municipalities of the Cannobina Valley. To date, the following have been published: Calachina, the ‘ghost village’, and ‘Gurro’. He is currently working on Cannobio and its surrounding area, and the book on this subject is due to be published next year.
 
The musician: Rossano Munaretto
Following his studies at the Conservatoires of Turin and Alessandria, under Arturo Danesin and Barbara Klein respectively, his artistic and musical career has been marked by solo concert performances, in various chamber and orchestral ensembles, including the RAI Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the “Stefano Tempia” Academy in Turin, and as a speaker and performer in the project “Il soffio della Terra: il legno e la pietra” (The Breath of the Earth: Wood and Stone). He performs on extremely rare types of flutes, made of marble, onyx, alabaster, crystal and ceramic, and delivers multimedia lectures on the experience of playing the flute, drawing inspiration from archaeology.
The “L. Pigorini” Prehistoric and Ethnographic Museum in Rome hosted one of his performances as part of “ArcheoFest”. In August 2018, he presented the multimodal lecture “The Etruscan Flute: From Dream to Sound” and a multimedia performance featuring stone flutes at the Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome and, subsequently, at the Volumni Hypogeum in Perugia.
He has published numerous chamber music pieces, both in print and under a Creative Commons licence, as well as chill-out and ambient tracks. He has worked as a trainer for teachers in the fields of IT and multimedia applied to education, sound technology, and open-source systems and platforms.
He has recorded Filippo Gragnani’s Sextet Op. 9 and, for the Accademia degli Etruschi in Bibbona, ‘Etruscan Soundscapes’, a collection of previously unpublished compositions performed by the composer himself. He is the creator of the TATLAS project, as well as its promoter, populariser and key contributor to its related activities.
