Natural History Museum

The Carcoforo Natural History Museum was established in 1994 by the Alta Valsesia Nature Park and also serves as a visitor centre and information point.

The site for this facility was chosen as an old wooden house in the hamlet of Tetto Minocco. In this way, in addition to establishing the museum with its specific objectives, restoration work was also carried out on one of the few remaining wooden houses that bear witness to Carcoforo’s ancient Walser origins.

The building comprises three distinct areas:
– a reception area, where two multimedia stations have also been set up, providing useful information on the Park’s natural and historical features;
– a dedicated exhibition hall featuring display panels describing the Park’s main natural habitats and its most representative animal and plant species; there is also a multimedia kiosk with a nature-themed game designed for younger schoolchildren;
– a multi-purpose hall, situated in the basement, which can be used for exhibitions and conferences related to the Park’s institutional activities.

The museum is also equipped with basic scientific instruments that are extremely useful for activities relating to research and nature education.
