Loana Valley Geotourism Circuit

The Loana Valley Geotourism Trail is a themed walking route that takes visitors on a journey of discovery through the geological and geomorphological heritage of the Loana Valley, linking natural processes with the landscape, vegetation and human presence. The route features information panels and geostops that illustrate the evolution of the area in a simple and engaging way.

There are two versions of the route. The lower loop (3.7 km, approx. 100 m elevation gain, 1 hour 30 minutes) is suitable for everyone and offers the chance to observe the valley’s main geomorphological features, the effects of water, snow and gravity on the landscape, and the ancient lime kilns.The high-altitude loop (12 km, approx. 800 m elevation gain, 5 hours) is, however, reserved for experienced hikers and leads up to Alpe Scaredi and Lago del Marmo, where you can explore topics such as geodiversity, the traces left by ancient glaciers, and the geological and ecological features of the area.

Along the route, the ‘geostops’ invite visitors to view the area with fresh eyes, explaining the role of landslides, avalanches, erosion and natural resources in shaping the Alpine landscape and in the history of local communities. The route thus offers an experience that combines hiking, popular science and the promotion of the natural and cultural heritage of the Loana Valley.
