The Rivalenti Trail at Isola di Vocca
Created in the summer of 2014, thanks to the GAL Terre del Sesia and the Municipality of Vocca (VC), it can be reached from Isola di Vocca: it is an easy route that allows tourists and researchers to reach the deep-crust rocks along the River Sesia. These are the deepest rocks of the magmatic system of the ancient volcano; they formed at a depth of around 25 km and were deformed as they crystallised.
The trail was named, at the behest of his former student Prof. Silvano Sinigoi, after Prof. Giorgio Rivalenti, a leading authority in the field of geology and former lecturer in Petrology and Petrography at the University of Modena, who had also devoted his research to the Ivrea-Verbano area.
